Dr. Mayra Padilla, director of the METAS program at Contra Costa College, Colima Project Leader, and HSI-STEM Grant Coordinator at Contra Costa College, won the CBS Channel 5 Jefferson Award for community and public service. Congratulations, Mayra, and thanks for all you do to inspire us every day!
The Colima Project links with Richmond City Council
On Friday, June 15, Juan Reardon helped us arrange a meeting with Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin and councilmembers Jeff Ritterman and Jovanka Beckles, as well as Paul Kilkenny, Marilyn Langlois, and Eduardo Martinez.
We heard their stories of becoming politically engaged, including Jeff's founding of the Committee for Health Rights in Central America. We then shared the project's news, including our plans for a plaza, three crosswalks, a mural, and the installation of ten doors in Colima. We'll reconnect with these politicians in September when we celebrate our return!
