Summer Internship
This summer's Colima Project team included students, artists, instructors, engineers, scientists, and, as always, residents of Colima, El Salvador.
Our goal at the beginning of the summer was to target arts and STEM learning in an internship at Contra Costa College and to bring this expertise to Colima for four projects targeting arts and culture, engineering, and community design.
In a partnership with Gelberg Rodriguez from Creegan + D'Angelo Engineers
and Jose Ramirez of R + D Engineering along with Daisy Huizar and Susana Guzman, lead interns, eleven students completed alternatives analysis on plans for two main engineering projects in Colima:
1) Crosswalks and safety improvements along the Carretera Troncal del Norte (the Northern spur of the Panamerican Highway) in the section running through Colima;
2) Plaza proposals for public space in Colima.
Meanwhile, lead artist Amanda Eicher, assisted by Yasi Perera, prepared ten public artworks in the form of laser-etched wooden doors for shipment, and worked with the group to project mural work in Colima.
